Risk Disclosure
Last updated
Copy trading on a prediction market is high risk. Read this page before you put real money into a live strategy, and only use money you can afford to lose entirely. It is part of our Terms of Service.
You can lose all the money you put in
Every Polymarket share pays $1 if its outcome happens and nothing if it does not. A position can go to zero, and a strategy can lose its whole budget. Daily loss limits and other rules reduce how fast you can lose; they do not prevent losses.
Past results do not predict future ones
Whale scores, rankings, presets, our research and paper results all describe the past. A wallet that did well can stop doing well, change what it trades, or have been lucky. Our own measurements show that the best wallets of one period often are not the best of the next. Nothing on the website or in the app is a promise of returns.
A copy is not the whale's trade
The Service places your copy after the whale's trade is seen, usually seconds to a minute later. By then the price may have moved. Your order can fill at a worse price, fill in part or not fill at all, especially on markets with little liquidity. Your rules may skip trades the whale makes, and the whale may exit, hedge or add to a position in ways your copy does not follow. Live results can be worse than paper results, which are simulated.
How markets are resolved
Polymarket markets are resolved under Polymarket's rules through the UMA optimistic oracle. A resolution can be disputed, delayed or decided in a way you think is wrong, and money in a position stays tied up until the market resolves. We have no control over resolution.
Polymarket can change its rules or restrict access
Polymarket sets its own fees, market rules and country restrictions, and can change them at any time. It can limit trading in a market or put access into a mode where positions can only be closed. If Polymarket restricts the access the Service uses, strategies may stop and open positions may be hard to exit until the restriction ends or the markets resolve.
Stablecoins and the blockchain
Your balance is held in USDC or USDC.e (bridged USDC) on the Polygon network, and Polymarket trades in its own collateral token backed by USDC. A stablecoin can lose its peg, a bridge or token contract can fail, a conversion can be paused, and the network can be congested or halted. Any of these can delay withdrawals or reduce what your balance is worth. Transfers on the blockchain cannot be reversed.
We hold your trading wallet's keys
The trading wallet is custodial: we hold its private keys and sign its transactions. This means your funds depend on our security and on our continued operation. A security breach, a mistake in our software, or our decision or obligation to stop operating could delay access to your funds or cause their loss. Your balance is not covered by any deposit insurance, investor compensation scheme or government guarantee.
The software can fail
Bugs, outages, data errors or delays in the data we receive can cause the Service to miss trades, place trades you did not expect, or fail to exit a position when your rules say it should. A stop-loss sells at the prices available when it triggers, which can be far below its level in a fast or thin market.
Regulation
Prediction markets, crypto assets and services that hold them are regulated differently in each country, and are restricted or illegal in some. Laws can change. A change in law or in how authorities treat the Service could force us to restrict users in some places, to change how the Service works or to stop it, at short notice. You are responsible for knowing whether you may use the Service where you live.
Taxes
Your trades may create tax obligations. You are responsible for them. We do not give tax advice.
Before you go live
- Run the strategy on paper first, long enough to see a bad week.
- Start live with a small amount.
- Set the limits: per trade, per market, per day.
- Check the strategy regularly, and know where Pause, Stop and the emergency stop are.
